Hi, I’m Megan Linton, the Occupational Therapist at CommuniCare in Grand Rapids. I’m excited to take this opportunity to highlight the impact of Occupational Therapy (OT), especially in the lives of adults recovering from traumatic brain injuries (TBI).

In OT, the term “occupations” refers to the meaningful activities and routines that make up daily life. My role is to understand each client’s unique lifestyle, goals, and interests, and use those to help them shape and rebuild their independence and quality of life.

At CommuniCare, we provide outpatient OT and a range of other therapies for individuals recovering from TBI. Many of our client’s experience challenges with memory, reasoning, problem-solving, and time management. It’s incredibly rewarding to support them in rediscovering their passions and redefining their sense of purpose—no matter their injury or past experiences. We even do group activities like critical thinking games, activities and even chair yoga!

We also offer a CARF Accredited Vocational Rehabilitation Day Program, where clients engage in real-world work hardening tasks by supporting The Care Boutique. This program gives them the opportunity to earn a paycheck, practice community integration, and build new skills—all in a supportive, empowering environment.

What I love most about OT is how diverse and personalized it is. Our goal is always the same: to help people live as independently and fully as possible. But how we get there looks different for everyone. Whether someone is recovering from a brain injury or navigating life with a disability, OT meets them where they are—at any stage, and at any ability level.

I’m proud to be part of this incredible field and to support our clients every step of the way.
