Day Program Activities In September

Rehabilitation is crucial after suffering from a severe injury. However, the rehabilitation process may look a little different for every individual, depending on the person and the kind of injury they sustained.

For those with a TBI, day programming has been found to be extremely beneficial.

Hopkins Medicine’s website goes over several key benefits to attending a rehabilitation program as a TBI survivor. For example:

  • Programming improves the ability to function at home and in a community by providing social and emotional support.

  • Programming can also help to treat both mental and physical problems.

  • Programming supplies the tools needed to help individuals adapt to changes and issues as they occur.

Day programming provides members with activities that work to improve memory, attention, coordination, language, social interaction skills, etc. Here at CMI, we structure our day program around the individual needs of our members.

Check out what CMI’s day program has been up to this month:

They have gotten crafty & creative…

DIY Suncatchers:

Glass Etching:

Hanging Yarn Wall Art:

They have given back…

Troy’s day program members made homemade dog treats to donate to the Humane Society of Macomb!

Giving back to the community can be a very rewarding act and it’s important for members to feel like they are making a difference.

They were active…

Day program members ventured out into the city this month for some adaptive cycling.

MoGo in Detroit offers adaptive cycling for riders with any type of disability. According to mogodetroit.org, “With 16 cycles including recumbent tricycles, upright cargo tricycles, hand tricycles, tandem bicycles, tandem tricycles, side-by-side quadricycles, and a box-bike, Adaptive MoGo accommodates a wide range of rider needs.”

Community reintegration is a key aspect of TBI rehabilitation and adaptive cycling is a great tool available for individuals with any kind of mental or physical limitation.

Here at CMI, daily activities, projects and outings are built around the needs and wants of our members. If a member expresses interest in something specific, our staff will make it happen.
