Day Program in August!

Communicare has been around for over twenty years, specializing in servicing the TBI community. While offering occupational therapy, physical therapy and mental health, CMI also has day program and a residential program.

The rehabilitation process is different for every individual with a TBI. Day program is a crucial part of their rehabilitation. In CMI’s day program, work hardening skills are utilized through many different channels including nutrition, vocational skills, art therapy, gardening and wood-working.

OT and PT are also incorporated into our day program, along with weekly outings where members venture out into the community.

This month, members have done a lot of exciting things that not only challenged their minds, but also allowed them to have some fun.

Here’s a look into what day program has been up to:

Vision Boards:

Vision boards are a great way to visualize goals, dreams and aspirations.

Our members are able to express themselves through various forms of art therapy like crafting, digital design and reflective art. This month, our members dug a little deeper with their projects.

Reflective Art:

Clients were able to process and reflect this month. One hand resembles things they want to let go of and the other resembles things they want to hold onto!

Let Go / Hold On | Member activities during day program.

Many of our members felt that this was a project they would be able to incorporate into real life and really help them cope.

Physical Therapy:

Our on-site physical therapist, Rob, leads day program members in several stretching exercises to start their days.

Community Outings:

Program outings are an essential factor to our member’s rehabilitation and reintegration back into the community. CMI focuses solely on person-centered care and we listen when members express things they want to learn or field trips they want to go on!

Community outings

Our day program staff took a group of members to a baseball game at Jimmy John’s Field!

Kayaking:

Day program wouldn’t be possible without our amazing staff. Our staff works tirelessly to make sure our members are learning, growing and having fun along the way.
